Established in partnership with Harrison County and volunteers from Virginia Tech, the newly finished camp includes two 35-person sea-huts, six outdoor showers, two bathrooms, a kitchen facility, and even wi-fi access.
Housing is in plywood-framed buildings. One building is air conditioned, the other is in process of being insulated for air conditioning. There are six showers. This facility can house up to 70 volunteers at a time.
$10 per night includes all meals. Volunteers need their own vehicles (to get to work sites and in the case of evacuation), bedding (including air mattresses if desired), and work gloves and work boots. Tools will be provided.
Volunteer work includes gutting houses and installing sheetrock and drywall. Opportunities are also available to work on cultural heritage preservation, community surveying, and environmental protection.
