In 1974, through the efforts of dedicated Latina social workers, the East Los Angeles Rape & Battering Hotline was introduced as the first Spanish language 24-hour crisis hotline to survivors of sexual assault in Southern California. Upon incorporation, the East Los Angeles Women's Center, formerly AVANCE Human Services, Inc. expanded its hotline services to include a Certified Volunteer Crisis Hotline Training, Sexual Assault Hospital Accompaniment and Advocacy, Domestic Violence Community Awareness Presentations, Promotora AIDS Training and HIV/AIDS Prevention Education Outreach and Hotline Services. All community-based program services are provided by certified bilingual professional staff and trained volunteers.
Our 24-hour crisis hotline has provided over 25 years of continuous hotline services to survivors of rape and sexual assault throughout Los Angeles County. The East Los Angeles Women's Center is proud to have a history of commitment that has provided a unique service designed to meet the needs of Latino family for a safe and healthy community.
