Medical, Volunteer, Paramedic / EMT needed by Baldwin Lake Fire Department

3 categories of opportunity exist to match your interests as follows - Volunteer Firefighter, Volunteer Emergency Medical First Responder (non-firefighting) and Auxiliary member (non –emergency response).

Baldwin Lake Volunteer Fire Department is an all volunteer fire department which supplements the county fire department in response to emergency calls in the Baldwin Lake area of east Big Bear Valley. Opportunities exist for persons interested in helping their community by being part of the fire rescue service. Volunteer firefighters (VFF’s) are needed to learn all aspects of rural and wildland firefighting. Duties can involve physically demanding activities at time, therefore good health is required.

Opportunities also exist for Volunteer Emergency Medical First Responders (EMFR’s). These volunteers would respond to medical rescue calls in a fire department vehicle and administer first aid, oxygen, CPR, etc. until local paramedics or other firefighters arrived on scene to take over. EMFR’s would not be training in firefighting and therefore would not participate in firefighting activities. They also would not be involved in moving or transporting patients. They would however play an important role in lifesaving duties.

Auxiliary members are a third category of volunteers which would not be responding to emergency alarms or calls. Instead they would be the ones who help with clerical duties, education, mechanical, maintenance and other areas of need and interest. Auxiliary members perform less physical demanding duties at their own pace and therefore don’t have fitness requirements required of firefighters. Persons with disabilities and senior citizens are encouraged to apply.

Mandatory training is provided as required. Personal protective clothing is provided. Personal expenses may be tax deductible, consult a tax professional.

Age minimum for VFF’s & EMFR’s is 18 or 17 while accompanied by parent or guardian. Auxiliary members have a minimum age of 16 with written consent of parents or guardian.
