Each year it serves more than 35,000 residents of the Los Angeles area, especially children and families. Volunteers of America's more than 30 programs include services for: Children and Families Numerous services including day care, after-school programs, Head Start and Early Head Start, summer camp, literacy, employment counseling and placement. Youth and Education Girls Inc, Upward Bound and Educational Talent Search, Positive Alternatives Elderly Programs include assisted living and companion pet care. Homeless Emergency outreach and shelter to individuals and families, vocational training and housing. Food, clothing, rent assistance, and transportation for individuals or families in crisis. Literacy, employment counseling and placement. Recovery and Rehabilitation Residential and outpatient treatment for alcohol and drug addiction and educational programs to help prevent substance dependency and abuse. Rehabilitation of ex-offenders through supervised residential programs that include vocational counseling and referrals. Low-Income Housing Affordable or subsidized housing is provided to families, elderly and people with disabilities.
