notes: Fishers seeks donations of cash, furniture, appliances for flood victims back Date of Record: June 24, 2008 The Town of Fishers is collecting donations for flood victims of its "adopted" communities of Lewis Creek and Flat Rock, Indiana, neighboring Shelby County communities devastated by flash flooding. Donations will be accepted at tonight's Concert Series and up until July 6 at Fire Station 91, located behind Town Hall. "It's a testament to the generosity of Hoosiers that so many groups have come forward to help those communities in our state that have been devastated by flooding," said Fishers Town Council President Scott Faultless. "By donating, Fishers residents can know they've had a hand in helping these specific Indiana communities rebuild." A needs assessment conducted by town staff found that flood victims attempting to rebuild require large items such as home construction supplies, furniture, home appliances, computers, and monetary donations. A trailer, donated by North American Van Lines, has been set up behind Fishers Fire Station 91 to collect large donations and deliver them to residents. "Since so many residents will be visiting Town Hall this evening for the popular Concert Series, we're encouraging residents to bring donations with them," Faultless added. People bringing large donations should drop them off by the North American Van Line trailer parked in the lot just north of the Fire Station. Cash donations and smaller items can be dropped off at the Recreation Tent. Checks can be made out to ECDC - Disaster Relief. (ECDC stands for Economic Community Development Corporation, a not-for-profit partnership between the Town of Fishers and the Fishers Chamber of Commerce.)
