We help children at risk.World Concern works in a variety of places, but we excel at providing relief in areas not serviced by other agencies. In many of the countries where we work, the people who live there face significant political or religious restrictions. In all cases, we seek out the poorest and most vulnerable.
Our staff includes nearly 1,000 people, assisted by countless volunteers. 95% of World Concern employees are citizens of the countries where we work. By employing locals, it provides financial value so that your donation can help more people. The background of our employees also allows us to better understand and overcome challenges we face on a daily basis. Additionally, by recruiting citizens from the countries where we work, we employ some of the people we may otherwise provide with aid.
Our staff members are experts in community development, leading families and communities out of poverty. Our donors are people who believe that God changes hearts as well as circumstances. Our volunteers are filled with Christ's love for the needy. Together, we’re teaching the destitute to hope—some for the first time. And together, we’ll stay with them until that hope becomes reality and they step out of poverty.
It’s all of us working together—you, our staff, volunteers and the poor who we serve—believing that God transforms the most desperate circumstances into new life and joy.

Providing help and hope in the midst of disaster
It’s heartbreaking to watch the tragedy unfolding in Japan and to witness the tremendous loss experienced by the Japanese people.
Japan TsunamiAs experts in providing aid during catastrophic events in developing countries, our disaster response team has offered technical assistance and support to our partner organizations that are already on the ground in Japan. We’re also supporting local churches in communities affected by the earthquake and tsunami. Churches are being used as shelters and points of support, hosting evacuees and providing food and water to those in need.
The greatest needs following any disaster are spiritual as well as physical. People need hope. They need encouragement. The Japanese people are showing amazing resolve during this tragedy, and knowing others care aids in their healing.
We’re working through Christian partner organizations, which are assessing the situation in hard hit communities, then mobilizing as information and needs are communicated. Your gift helps ensure the victims of this disaster get the urgent help they need.

Haiti Earthquake Jan. 12, 2010 5 p.m.
World Concern’s disaster response team is responding to a major earthquake in Haiti. Our primary office in Port Au Prince is still standing, but the building next to ours has collapsed, as have many buildings in Port Au Prince.
We will provide blankets, plastic sheeting and emergency supplies of water. There is a very high likelihood that the water systems will be combined with sewage. In our experience, it is likely that people who have escaped from the quake into the streets may elect to sleep outside tonight.
News agencies have reported the quake measured 7.3 on the Richter scale. Substandard construction in many poor communities in Haiti will undoubtedly lead to building collapses, injuries and deaths.
