We would like to connect our PAZAPA staff and children with psychological trauma specialists. Ideally we would like to find people who could travel to Haiti soon, and care providers must speak Haitian Kreyol. Please email suem @siloe.org if you have any leads.
Executive Director Marika MacRae and her children are safe, as are the children and staff of PAZAPA. Many of them have lost homes, family members, and friends. The back wall of the PAZAPA building collapsed and we believe the whole building may have to be demolished. We are exploring options for temporary space to run the program as well as land to buy and a new building to construct.
The city of Jacmel, where much of PAZAPA's work takes place, was severely damaged by the January 12 earthquake. Executive Director Marika MacRae and her children are safe. We expect the impact of the earthquake on our operations to be substantial. Please give as generously as you can so that we can continue to provide our vital services in the wake of this catastrophe.

mission:
The mission of PAZAPA is to support the treatment, education, and development of children with handicaps, and to integrate them into the community at large.
PAZAPA means "step by step" in Haitian Creole, and step by step it is making a difference in the lives of Haiti’s handicapped children. PAZAPA is also making a difference in the culture of Haiti, by modeling and fostering acceptance of handicapped children.
The Center’s strategy has been to hire and train Haitian personnel, and except for Marika MacRae, the Center’s executive director, the entire staff is Haitian.
PAZAPA provides the highest quality of care, treatment, and education for the poorest, most neglected children in the Western Hemisphere.
With support from North American and European volunteers in all fields, local and international organizations, churches, and individuals, PAZAPA has provided help to more than a thousand children and their families since its inception in 1987. PAZAPA is able to keep its operating cost low largely because of the support of its volunteers. These committed individuals allow PAZAPA to offer services free of charge that would be out of the reach of virtually all Haitian families. -> The mission of PAZAPA is to support the treatment, education, and development of children with handicaps, and to integrate them into the community at large.
