We are capable of storing dry, frozen and refrigerated products. Our Vehicles Our Transportation Division includes a 24' Freightliner FL-80 with a 54,000 lb load capacity, a 26' Freightliner FL-70 with a 26,000 lb load capacity, an additional 24' refrigerated truck with a 25,000 lb load capacity, a 15' Dodge Van with a 4,174 lb load capacity, and a 10' refrigerated truck used for local refrigerated pick-ups and deliveries. The Mobile Pantry Program is a direct distribution program. The concept is simple. Agencies of the Food Bank choose a site and a date for the event. They advertise it to their clients, and on the appointed day, the Food Bank truck arrives with a large assortment (at least 10,000-12,000 pounds - 10 pallets) of nutritious foods, including fresh produce. The clients receive foods they need at no cost to them. Loads of food and health/comfort items out of our Food Bank's Disaster Relief reserves have been sent to our Partner Distribution Organization, West Alabama Food Bank and are being used locally in Elmore and Tallapoosa counties. Truckloads of goods are also being sent from our corporate offices of Feeding America. The need in our service area is widespread with the greatest needs occuring in Tuscaloosa, Elmore, and Tallapoosa counties. How You Can Help Anyone or group that wishes to help can do so in a number of ways, like donating food or funds to our Food Bank. The items that these folks need are mostly ready-to-eat foods (pop-top canned foods are great!), juices, and other food not requiring refrigeration. Diapers would be great to have also. One important lesson we learned in the aftermath of Katrina is NOT to send any items to any disaster area unless you know the agency you are heading for and they have volunteers to manage the distribution. Do YOU Need Disaster Relief Food Assistance? MAFB Disaster Response Emergency Food Assistance continues to be available today, Saturday, in Eclectic, located in the warehouse on Main Street, across from the old police station. Gretchen Kindrick is the MAFB contact at the location. This food assistance is specifically for all VICTIMS of the recent disaster.
