Our purpose
We bring together volunteers from every part of the construction industry to design and build structures for communities in need. Together with our partners, we use donations of time, money, materials, and expertise to build clinics, schools, community centers, and specialized housing for those who need them most—both in our own community and around the world. Non-construction volunteers are a critical part of our team. And, beyond the bricks and mortar of a new structure, BGF volunteers build lasting relationships with the people they are helping—relationships that profoundly improve the lives of all involved

From the flood ravaged banks of the Mississippi to the mountains of Guatemala, BGF volunteers have given their time, energy and skill to construct numerous projects for those most in need, giving hope and improving lives worldwide.

Volunteer
The BGF volunteer experience
We bring together volunteers from every part of the construction industry to design and build structures for communities in need. We extend this opportunity to all interested volunteers—always welcoming an offered hand. By helping those most desperately in need, the lives of all involved are enriched in ways few can adequately describe. After volunteering on a BGF project, participants often speak of having had an experience that changed how they view their role in the world. Qualified leaders on every trip take a personal interest in every volunteer to ensure he or she has the most fulfilling experience possible.

Our expectations
We respect all individuals and cultures we encounter and seek to make the lives of our fellow human beings better. Core members, new volunteers, partners, and community members work together in a respectful, collaborative manner. Through pre-departure orientations, team members get acquainted with each other and set the goals and expectations for the trip. While we do not require that volunteers have construction skills, a cooperative, positive attitude and willingness to contribute to the goals of the team is a must!

Other ways to help
You don’t have to be a carpenter, mason or designer to make a difference. There are many other ways to volunteer at BGF including working on a committee, preparing mailings, event support and representing BGF in outreach activities.
