I just got off the phone with Mayor Vidal of Chambellan. He does not speak english, so I threw a translator on real quick to get some details: Since Nov. 14th they have seen over 3,000 cases- with 40 fatalities. The clinic has 25 cholera beds and they have Haitian and Cuban doctors (I was unable to get an actual number). They were last given aide by MSF, 12 days ago, and are almost out of all supplies.
Requested that Lionel St. Pierre phone the site POC on 12/28/10 to get a specific supply needs list with quantities included.
Days per week clinc/hosp. is open? Everyday
If you have not seen any cholera patients, do you have: Lots of cases
If you are not a CTC, how will patients get access to the nearest CTC? How far away is it?: No CTC, cases treated in health center: VERY FAR
Total number of fatalities since that date:
Number of Cholera patients in the last week?: 14 dead - 360 patients last week
Have you established an Isolation Unit for Cholera patients? Please describe it (indoor/outdoor, cots, patients on floor, etc): Not yet, not affordable
How many patients did you or do you normally average in a month, BEFORE cholera became an issue: 300 patients
Closest CTC to your facility (Please provide location): Moron 8km (18.5657, -74.2674)
How far do Cholera patients have to travel to receive treatment at your facility?:
Depend of where they come from, which locality
Describe accessibility to your site (e.g. Passable roads? Helicopter Landing Pad or spot? Airstrip for small planes? Please provide conditions for air landings and GPS coordinates): Airplane from PAP to Jeremie- Hellicopters can land, 4x4 can reach, but helicopters recommended for rapid help 18.55579, -74.37289

cat_notes: -> 12/29/10 LTel: Mayor Vidal of Chambellan is to be considered a RED FLAG. Only a day after reporting to Holli w/J/P HRO that they were desperate for Cholera supplies and appearing to over report Cholera patient surge and fatalities we received the report from MSF that no one asked for supplies at this site and they had 1/2 their bed capacity available. It is likely, like in many cases, local authorities ask for supplies and sell them on the black market.
