Mission: Mission Statement

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

The motivation of the organization is love of God and a practical concern for the needs of humanity. This is expressed by a spiritual ministry, the purposes of which are to preach the Gospel, disseminate Christian truths, supply basic human necessities, provide personal counseling and undertake the spiritual and moral regeneration and physical rehabilitation of all persons in need who come within its sphere of influence regardless of race, color, creed, sex or age.

Emergency Disaster Services

On September 8, 1900, a hurricane devastated Galveston, Texas leaving more than 5,000 people dead. The city, sustaining extensive property damage, was virtually destroyed. While survivors were still reeling from this onslaught of nature, Frederick Booth-Tucker, National Commander, ordered Salvation Army officers from across America to proceed to the disaster site to provide spiritual and material assistance.

This, The Salvation Army's first national disaster appeal for funds, was generously supported by caring Americans. From these beginnings a century ago, The Salvation Army has developed local, regional and national disaster services programs. Whether it be a local incident or a major disaster, Salvation Army staff and volunteers are often the first on the scene and the last to depart, honoring a century-old commitment to serve those in need, at the time of need, and at the place of need.

The red shield continues to be a beacon of compassion; of immediate aid, psychological support and spiritual counsel to individuals and families whose lives have been disrupted or shattered by forces beyond their control. Salvation Army disaster response teams, coordinated and directed by commissioned officers and trained personnel, supported by volunteers, are "on call" to serve at all disasters which place a community or its populace at risk or which may disrupt or destroy family security and well-being.

•Go to 350 Industrial Dr. Birmingham, 35211 to our temporary warehouse—WE DO NOT NEED CLOTHING, WE HAVE HAD AN AMAZING RESPONSE IN THAT AREA, THANK YOU, BUT items still needed: non-perishable foods (canned meats, canned veggies, evaporated milk, pasta, dry cereal), can openers, new towels, hygiene products for men and women (especially lotion, razors and deodorant), batteries, pillows, over the counter medicines (Tylenol etc), new underwear for women. cleaning supplies (disinfectants and multipurpose sprays), paper products (plates, cups, plastic silverware, toilet paper), denture products, pots and pans, flashlights, and bedding.
•Drop-off hours- M-F 8-5.
•Additional drop-off sites: Brannon-Honda 300 Gadsden Hwy. Birmingham—-Second Attic Storage 1760 4th Ave. S.W. Bessemer.
