The person who asked us to add this entry asked us to tell people that NAMI has education/training for police to help them understand a kinder/gentler way of dealing with folks that they may suspect of having mental illness. The training has been shown to save lives: http://www.nami.org/cit
The Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) model, a community program designed to improve the outcomes of police interactions with people with mental illnesses - something like 14 towns in Mass have had this training - it should be every town! http://www.citinternational.org
