notes: FROM THE SITE (LTEL 9/17/12) Convoy of Hope continues its disaster response efforts in Louisiana in the wake of Hurricane Isaac. “We’ve worked with federal, state and local officials and responded to more than 12,000 families affected by the storm,” says Karen Benson, global disaster response director for Convoy of Hope. “We’ll have a presence in the area as long as we’re needed.” The Global Disaster Response (GDR) teams worked closely with the Louisiana National Guard at a mobile distribution point in Slidell, La. “The troops said our operation in Slidell was one of the best they had seen from an operational standpoint,” says Nick Weirsma, one of Convoy of Hope’s first responders. The GDR teams facilitated the entire distribution operation in Slidell, while the National Guard provided security and manpower.
