Our co-op in Allston/Brookline is looking for a new housemate to join our community starting May 1st. We are a friendly group ranging in age from mid-20's to mid-30's, and we are open to people of all ages, genders, ethnicities, orientations, and backgrounds. Our shared house is loosely inspired by Rainbow Mansion in Cupertino, CA, and is made up of socially conscious people who enjoy tinkering, making, and learning! Activities include board games, dinner parties, outdoor adventures, bike riding, film viewings, and occasional themed events such as Pi day and storytelling night. Though we all have different jobs and schedules, we enjoy participating in the community and hanging out when we're home.
We share food, and cook vegetarian house meals on a semi-regular basis (a few of us are veggie, but omnivores are welcome). Communal dinners are important to us and we love being able to sit down and eat together when we can. Things here are generally tidy and organized: we have a creative chore system and hold twice-monthly house meetings. We also like to improve our living space via once-monthly workdays - we all contribute ideas and enthusiasm to keep things evolving in a positive direction. This is a house where creativity and unconventionality are valued, and residents seek to learn from each other and do stuff!
Practicalities: We have one large room available for $875. It is the biggest room in the house and located on the quiet 3rd floor. Utilities average $70/month, and our bulk/shared food system allows us to keep a fully stocked kitchen for quite cheap ($140/month). The house is a massive 3-story, 7bed/3bath single-family home which has been functioning as a co-op since 2013. We are lucky to have a traditional layout - the common areas are on the ground floor and all bedrooms are located upstairs, allowing us loads of space to be social while preserving a feeling of privacy and quiet in our individual rooms. The living room can be closed off to accommodate overnight guests, and also has a piano! For outdoor space, we have a small balcony, a big front porch, private tree-shaded backyard, and a full basement with bike storage, workbench space, and coin-op laundry. We're located very close to the B line as well as the 66 bus, and within 10 minute walking distance of Coolidge Corner.
