In response, northwest Florida's technology council, IT Gulf Coast, has partnered with Mobile's Gulf Coast Technology Council, the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce and the Baldwin County Economic Development Alliance in an effort to make the database a reality during the first half of 2007. Those entities want Gulf Coast companies that provide emergency resources -- information technology companies, construction firms, plumbing companies, temporary manpower suppliers -- to be part of the database, said Allan Alderman, co-chair of IT Gulf Coast. Before the database is unveiled, IT Gulf Coast will hold a business continuity seminar next month, and is inviting companies from Mobile and Baldwin counties to give short presentations at that event, which is tentatively scheduled for Jan. 24 in Pensacola. The goal is to have six presenters from Alabama and six from Florida, said Claudia Hamilton, project manager of economic development for the Mobile chamber and coordinator of the Gulf Coast council. Hamilton added that though hurricanes immediately spring to mind in discussions of disaster preparedness, fire and theft are also major concerns for businesses. Alderman said IT Gulf Coast decided to enlist the help of its neighbors to expand the size of the database, and to make more people aware of it. The organization is also hoping to draw attention to its business continuity seminars.
