For the Evacuees of California Fires
Needs in Orange County have increased 500% in the last week.
We need your help! OperationOC was receiving about 10 people a day at it’s facility at the Village of Hope in Tustin. That number has increased to more than 50 Orange County residents per day. You might ask why? Well, we saw this happen with Hurricane Katrina Evacuees. Once the shock of the disaster wears off, the evacuees then begin to search out assistance so that they can get their lives back together. As of today, we have served 351 evacuees with critical resources.
This means that we need your help immediately to provide non-perishable food items, grocery gift certificates, fast food certificates and gas cards. We are currently providing approximately $5,000 a day in resources to our Orange County neighbors that have been affected by the wild fires.
Please drop these items off at the Orange County Rescue Mission between 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM Monday through Friday, at One Hope Drive, Tustin, California, 92782. For additional information, please call (714) 247-4300.
OperationOC is Orange County’s collaborative private/public partnership which has been re-activated to meet the needs of the evacuees of the fires that have ravaged Southern California. OperationOC continues to operate three Local Response Centers. We are providing food, clothing, gas cards, food vouchers and case management for as long as our resources last.

For the Evacuees of California Fires
Out of Washington, D.C., the Corporation for National and Community Service’s Office of Emergency Management reported today that the response to the California wildfires has officially transitioned to long-term recovery. FEMA has closed all response centers, or transitioned to recovery operations. The Joint Field Office housing group expects to produce the Unified Housing Strategy, the blueprint for housing recovery, in the next few days. In all, 2015 homes were destroyed, seven people lost their lives, and 500,000 acres burned. Twenty-three fires over seven counties temporarily displaced thousands, and 76 people remain in shelters as of 11-06-07.
OperationOC continues to operate three Local Response Centers. We are providing food, clothing, gas cards, food vouchers and case management for as long as our resources last.
OperationOC is now focusing on moving the victims from a day-to-day assistance mode into a transitional assistance mode to help them develop a strategy for self-sufficiency. We will assist them with housing opportunities, nutritional food supplies, counseling and financial planning.

Any attempt to tally in terms of numbers the human devastation affected by the loss of your home to fire is impossible. Countless victims are displaced, unemployed, homeless, hungry, destitute and worst of all, hopeless. They have lost everything, and they have nowhere to turn. It is the intent of OperationOC to challenge Orange County public and private organizations, churches, service clubs and individuals to pool their resources and join them in the effort to respond to the needs of the victims of these Southern California fires. Thank you for serving the Least, the Last, and the Lost.
YOU CAN BE A PART of a monumental, long-term effort to do for these people what we all hope they would do for us if our roles were reversed.
Our most urgent needs are for non-perishable food, donated vehicles for evacuees and grocery store gift cards.
