The Hancock County Emergency Operations Center was activated
full force as a result of Hurricane Katrina. The EOC has now
become a common name amongst the locals due to our huge roll
in the response and recovery of Hancock County’s Hurricane
Katrina. The Emergency Operations Center has been working, even
prior to Katrina’s land fall doing everything humanly possible
to see to the citizen’s of Hancock County safety and current
well being.
The EOC’s responsibilities are enormous; they entail everything
from coordinating Emergency Responders all the way to coordinating
Volunteer and Donation efforts. The EOC staffing was expanded to
include Local, State, numerous other states, and Federal,
specialist. To whom we are forever indebted. These personnel working
in the EOC never stop, no holidays, no set work times,7 days a week,
trying to drive the recovery and rebuild efforts to the best of their
ability.
We have learned a great deal from this experience and this will
ultimately make us better. The EOC will continue this effort for
as long as needed, and be placed back on standby for any
additional emergencies in the future.
